Police have arrested and charged a man after responding to a serious incident at an east Auckland supermarket.
A police spokesperson says the 24-year-old is charged with assaulting police, disorderly behaviour, shoplifting, threatening behaviour and failing to comply with a direction under the Covid-19 Public Health Response Act.
The incident happened at the Pak’nSave supermarket in Botany on September 15.
“The alleged offender had stolen some items and when confronted by a supermarket security staff member, the offender has then allegedly got his dog out of the car and both he and his dog have then chased the victim around the store,” the spokesperson told the Times.
“The offender was allegedly not wearing a mask.
“Police have arrived and arrested the man, who assaulted one of our male officers during the arrest and then allegedly threatened to kill our female officer who was in attendance.”
The police spokesperson says the alleged offender, who lives in east Auckland, was expected to appear in the Manukau District Court on September 17.
