The victim was transported to Middlemore Hospital but sadly died from her injuries.
While police were at the scene, a male contacted police alleging he was the offender.
He was located by police in Botany and brought back to the Manukau Police station.
Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Va’aelua says the alleged offender was known to the victim and says Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this death.
“Police are continuing to investigate the incident and a scene examination continues today.
“A post-mortem examination will also take place today.
“Police are not in a position to confirm the name of the deceased until next-of-kin have been notified.
“We also encourage anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to contact Police.”
A 33-year-old male is appearing in the Manukau District Court this morning charged with murder.
As the matter is before the courts, police are unable to provide further comment or discuss specific details of the case, including how the victim and the alleged offender knew each other.
