The 2020 Golf Croquet Challenge between the two local club Patrons drew a wide community audience of around 70 people on 14 December cheering the performances of Howick Croquet Patron Sharon Stewart and Pakuranga Croquet Patron Simeon Brown.
Howick Croquet hosted this challenge at their Millhouse Reserve greens, and after a close and challenging game, Simeon Brown emerged the victor, narrowly winning by 7 hoops to 5.
In accepting the brand new silver Patrons’ Cup, Simeon admitted he found golf croquet much harder than he thought he would. He confirmed he had played “three or four” warm-up games but still found the hoops never wide enough to be comfortable (!)
Howick Croquet now plans that this Patrons’ Cup will be put on the line twice a year between the two local clubs.
