Young scientists in the making

A group of Year 3 and 4 students from Elim Christian College took part in the annual Howick and Pakuranga Principal’s Association (HPPA) Science and Technology Competition held at Point View School and won the coveted trophy.  Students from 13 schools took part in a range of challenges including robotics, coding, Top Trumps, mechanics, and physics.

Spring becomes national champ

Saint Kentigern College rider Ruby Spring dominated at the Cycling Northern Tour which finished up on Sunday.
Spring was first overall in the U15 Girls Northern Tour, first in the Northern Tour Criterium U15 Girls to become National Champion, first in the U15 Girls’ Individual Time Trial breaking the record and first in the U15 Girls Hill Climb.

Baseball grant

The New Zealand Community Trust has awarded numerous grants in the Auckland region in August including one to a local club. Howick Pakuranga  Baseball Club was granted $1737.39 to go towards dry line markers.

Charges laid after fatal Highland Park crash

Counties Manukau Police have arrested a man following an investigation into a fatal single-vehicle crash on Aviemore Drive, Highland Park on August 9 where a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.

A 51-year-old man appeared in the Manukau District Court charged with dangerous driving causing death, excess blood alcohol causing death, and driving with excess blood alcohol (3rd or subsequent).

He has been remanded to reappear in the Manukau District Court on September 18.
