This year, the Good Start Foundation opened applications for their annual scholarship to Ormiston Senior College, Botany Downs Secondary, Pakuranga College and Edgewater College.
Out of all applicants Navneet Dhillion of Ormiston Senior College was selected to be the recipient.
Navneet, a fitting recipient, has committed herself to serving her neighbourhood.
She currently serves as the Community Outreach officer for Dr Anae Neru Leavasa, Parliamentary youth council.
Navneet has been actively involved with non-profit organisations such as dementia friends, assisting people with Alzheimer’s disease with routine household tasks and activities.
She has taken a leading role in the Shakti movement which helps young people who are struggling with mental health.
Navneet has also been actively involved in the The Village Collective for the past three years, an organisation that creates a safe space for members of the rainbow community in the Ormiston area.
To add on to an already impressive list, she is currently in the middle of writing three books based around mental and social health awareness.
She is an active volunteer for the Student Volunteer Army, recording 1500 hours of volunteering.
In 2023, Navneet is all set to study bio-medical science and aspires to be a doctor.
While studying, she also plans to continue volunteering for the Student Volunteer Army, all in the hope that one day she will establish a charity of her own.
Navneet was awarded the scholarship on October 31 at the school’s prizegiving at Due Drops Events Centre.
At the prizegiving she also received a Pounamu Award for her contribution to the Ormiston community.
From Good Start Foundation she receives a $2500 tertiary scholarship and a mentor.
