The Upper North Island Secondary Schools (UNISS) netball competition will be held at Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre (HPNC) at Lloyd Elsmere Park from August 30 to September 3.

The annual competition involves schools from the Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Northland areas. There are 112 secondary schools registered to attend. The competition was last held in 2019 at Netball North Harbour. Last year’s competition was cancelled due to Covid-19.

The competition is formatted into four grades. Teams will play twice a day. Finals will be played on September 3 as follows:

D Grade – 12:30
C Grade – 13:30
B Grade – 14:30

A Grade – 15:30

Finals will be streamed live for those that are not able to attend in person. Details will be available on the website closer to the time.

Winners of the 2019 competition, all returning again this year, were:

A Grade – Saint Kentigerns School
B Grade – Waitakere College
C Grade – Bay Of Islands College
D Grade – Hobsonville Point Secondary School

“We expect about 2000 people to be at the courts throughout the day, consisting of players, coaches, managers, umpires, and volunteers,” Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre’s Amelia Chambers said.

“In addition to this we expect a large number of spectators to come and enjoy the games.”
