More than 1000 eager runners flocked to Shelley Park School to take part in its second colour run.

Up from 600 participants last year, the recent colour run is the school’s biggest fundraiser.

Students, parents and teachers alike ran/walked/crawled around a 1km obstacle course within the school zones while being bombed with powder from seven colour zones.

The course culminated in a giant foam slide that was a huge hit with young and old alike.

The event ended with a mass colour throw when over 1000 people threw handfuls of coloured powder into the air.

The youngest participants were a pair of one year olds and there were several grandparents who completed the course.

Parents and teachers said the day perfectly showed the spirit and sense of fun of the school.

There were raffles, ‘Bomb the teacher’ and a costume competition where the community were encouraged to wear their wackiest outfits.

Participants travelled from as far south as Papakura and as far north as Albany to attend the event, which was open to the entire community.

Hayley Gahan, an event organiser, says the colour run looks set to be a permanent fixture on the Shelly Park School calendar.

Plans are already underway to make next year’s event even bigger and more spectacular.
