A driver allegedly involved with the hit-and-run of a toddler in Flat Bush is being interviewed by police.
Police have confirmed they are speaking to a 23-year-old male in relation to the hit-and-run of a four-year-old boy on Baverstock Rd last Thursday morning.
The investigation was on-going, police told the Times, and no further information was available.
A mother was walking her four-year-old son and nephew to kindergarten at around 8am on Thursday, August 18 when the incident happened.
Police said as she crossed Baverstock Rd she noticed a white sedan vehicle travelling towards her at a fast speed.
She acted quickly to pull both children back, however as she lifted her son, the vehicle hit his right leg which was broken in the incident.
The vehicle did not stop and continued driving, turning left on Chapel Rd.
CCTV footage has been obtained, however the vehicle’s registration number is not visible.
Counties Manukau Senior Sergeant Jono Chappell said this was a really serious matter which left the mother and children very shaken.
“Failing to stop and render assistance following a vehicle crash is a criminal offence,” he said.
“The fact that this person did not stop to see if the child was okay is appalling and we would like to identify the owner of the vehicle so we can make further enquiries.”
The vehicle is distinctive in that it has tinted windows with a rounded quarter light and black mag wheels.
The vehicle is similar to a Honda Civic saloon sedan 2006-2011 model.
