If you haven’t voted in the local elections yet, it’s time to get a move on.
Voting closes at midday on Saturday, but Auckland Council General Manager Democracy Services Marguerite Delbet says it’s time to act now.
“The postal deadline has passed, so all remaining votes need to be dropped into one of the many ballot boxes across the city.”
Ballot box locations include libraries, designated Auckland Council service centres and Britomart train station. All ballot box locations will be accepting votes until midday on Saturday.
Voters can simply type their address into the elections website, voteauckland.co.nz, to find the nearest place to drop their papers.
Mobile ballot boxes will also be available at the Downtown Ferry Terminal during the Friday morning and afternoon commute, as well as the La Cigale markets in Parnell and Britomart on Saturday morning.
Voting papers can also be dropped into ballot boxes at One Stop Shop locations.
Ms Delbet says the One Stop Shop initiative allows people to enrol and vote at the same time.
“If people didn’t receive their voting papers, or their voting papers are damaged, they can still cast a special vote at one of the remaining One Stop Shops on Friday.”
Special votes can also be cast at five Auckland libraries, nine council service centres, or the Independent Election Services office until Saturday 12 noon.
What happens on election day?
Voting in the Auckland local elections closes at midday on Saturday October 12, and progress results will be published at voteauckland.co.nz after 2pm.
Progress results reflect about 95 per cent of the votes cast but don’t include special votes and votes delivered on Saturday morning (election day).
Sunday 13 October
Preliminary results will be available on the morning of Sunday October 13 on voteauckland.co.nz.
These results will include all ordinary votes cast throughout the region but won’t include special votes.
Official results
Final results are expected on the afternoon of Thursday October 17, 2019 (once all valid special votes have been included).
