海姆加特纳为耐力赛做好准备

Just weeks after he competed in Shanghai as part of the FRD LMP3 Championship, Andre Heimgartner, originally from Dannemora, is getting ready to head to Sandown Raceway for the first event in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia’s inaugural Endurance Cup.

The Melbourne-based Kiwi is currently second in the Carrera Cup Australia championship chase with three rounds remaining, with each of the remaining rounds set to host longer races as part of the newly launched Endurance Cup concept.  The highest points scorer across the three endurance rounds will be awarded the Endurance Cup.

The first endurance event, held as part of round six of the Carrera Cup Australia Championship, will hit Sandown Raceway this weekend (15-17 September). Two 14-lap sprint races will be held on the Saturday, before Sunday’s 25-lap/77.5km endurance style third race which will be the second longest race in the series’ history.

“The endurance concept is really interesting and is sure to up the ante across the three final rounds of the 2017 Carrera Cup Australia season,” Heimgartner said.

“I like the longer races, it gives you more of a chance to race and more time to make positions.

“After starting this year really strongly and then having a few things go a bit awry, we are currently second yet still within reach of the top spot on the championship ladder.

“The team and I are well and truly focused on clawing that back, and with three rounds left to run, there is plenty that can happen yet.

“In the lead-up to the September event I have been throwing everything into my preparation, I have never been as fit as I am currently and I am ultra-focused on making sure this weekend advances my title hopes. At the same time, the team has been working really hard and we have made some strong steps forward ahead of this weekend – now, I can’t wait to get out there and see what we can do.”

Round Six of the Carrera Cup Australia Championship, including the Endurance Cup, will hit Sandown Raceway across Friday 15 September to Sunday 17 September.
