与大鱼一起捕获春季鲜鱼

As the weather warms up, those looking at a sensational season on the water could well be in for a spectacular haul.

Thanks to fresh products in-store at The Big Fish in Cascades Road, Pakuranga, fishers, kayakers, divers have everything they could possibly need for summer.

New to the store, Paddling Perfection joins the kayak section with a quality range of sea kayaks and paddling equipment.

It’s also a great opportunity to view some of New Zealand’s leading handmade composite kayaks – the SeaBear, Breaksea and Euro-X . Also on display are some new, fun thermoform plastic kayaks great for beginners – The ADVENTURER and easy to paddle fitness/fun kayak, S14 from Star Kayaks.

Owner Kim White will be available most Saturday mornings to discuss kayak needs and offer advice. Test paddles are also on offer.

What’s more, a wider range of entrylevel sit-on-top kayaks will be brought in to enable people to get on the water and enjoy the fun of kayaking or fishing at a competitive price.

Started by Bucklands Beach resident Phil Appleyard nearly 20 years ago, The Big Fish has built up a solid reputation for a comprehensive range of top stock.

It is also well-known for having a big selection of bait on sale. “We are all mad keen on fishing here at The Big Fish and so the staff offer great practical knowledge,” says Kim.

The Big Fish also has a fishing club, which was launched about the time it started and now has about 250 members. The club, which meets monthly and also organises competitions and other events, is affiliated to the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. New members are always welcomed along to share fishing information, know-how and possible stories about the “one that got away.”

Some very impressive fish specimens, which obviously didn’t get away, have been moulded into very impressive fibreglass moulds to decorate the shop. There’s also a photo-board with an impressive line-up of photographs of fishing success stories. The fishing side of the shop covers a huge range of equipment – ranging from the New Zealand-made Predator fishing system through to a big selection of rods and reels.

The Big Fish is a leading stockist for locally-made off-shore rods – ranging in price from about $150 through to about $700. It also stocks Ocean Kayaks, charts, buoyancy aids (lifejackets) and all other fishing requirements.

Within the shop is another little shop which specialises in diving equipment. This section is run by Rebecca Ledingham and Dennis Hyde, who are both experienced divers and dive instructors.

“We supply everything you could possibly need for snorkelling, diving or spear-fishing,” Rebecca says. “It’s a nice, friendly local business with a real variety of stock and good prices. Anything we don’t have, we can usually have it in store within a day if needed.”

Fishing is becoming very family oriented with many regular customers at The Big Fish now introducing their children to the pleasure of hours of fishing off their boats or wharves so call by for all your fishing needs and much more.
